Should you decide to go forward and place an order, I will send you an invoice which is payable in advance via a PayPal account or major credit card.
OktavaMod Edition microphones are individually created, burned-in and thoroughly tested for each customer after an email dialog in which we discuss your needs. Think of OktavaMod as an old-fashioned, small village store run by a sole proprietor who loves to greet the public when he hears the door bell clang. You won't find an impersonal mega-music store "click-to-buy" experience here. I respond to all inquiries personally, usually within hours and am happy to provide a brief business-like response or engage in a more nuanced dialog if you prefer.
 Discussion of the Stock Microphone
Released in October 2006, the mid-sized diaphragm MK-103 was developed to compliment Oktava small and large diaphragm condenser mics. It provides a useful gradation in time domain response between the small and large diagram sizes and offers excellent cardioid pattern attenuation over a broad frequency range.
The Capsule
The MK-103 features a newly-developed mid-sized 19.5 mm capsule with quick transient response reminiscent of the acclaimed MK-012 small diaphragm mic but retains some of the larger-than-life magic associated with Oktava’s large diaphragm capsules.
The Headbasket & Body
The MK-103 feature a front address head assembly coupled to smaller diameter, in-line body that eliminates a source of reflection between sound source and capsule. When pointed directly at the intended sound source the body disappears behind the capsule head assembly. The tight fitting headbasket eliminates reflections between it and the capsule edge. In addition, the headbasket consists of an acoustically optimized curved housing to eliminate sharp edge refractions that can color the capsule’s pure sound.
The Circuit
The MK-103 uses the acclaimed transformerless circuit field-proven in the popular MK- 102 (over 90,000 in use worldwide) to deliver clear, precise and uncolored sound.
The Sound
On Axis – Quick transient response and extended high frequency response are hallmarks of the MK-103. Off Axis –Moderately strong attenuation at 90 degrees creates a tightly focused cardioid pattern while very strong midrange attenuation at 180 degrees minimizes room sound and unwanted sound source pick up.
Unique Features of the OktavaMod Edition MK-103
Consistent with all OktavaMod microphones, the OktavaMod Edition MK-103 employs a single-layer grille mesh to further reduce reflections between the grille and capsule diaphragm. Body electronics are upgraded using a special version of my Premium Electronics package. The OktavaMod MK-103 excels where the recordist wants fast transient response, extended high end and strong attenuation of ambient room sound.
